Landen O

My name is Landen O and I am a 5th grader at Georgetown Elementary School. I started playing the Clarinet at the beginning of this school year and fell in love with Band.

For me, band challenges me to learn something new and encourages me to improve my skills. I try to memorize the music we are playing so that I can play from memory and prepare to be in the marching band in the next few years.

Band is like an extra family for me. I have classmates that are all working toward the same goal and we are a team. It’s so much fun to learn our instruments together. My school has woodwinds practice on Mondays and Tuesdays and the brass instruments practice on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I love hearing the music come together when we all practice as a team on Fridays.

Band has given me so much confidence as well. I used to be scared to perform in front of others and band has broken me out of that shell. My band members are nice and encouraging. After all, we are all learning together something that is completely new to all of us.

I look forward to learning how to march and being in parades. I would love to be in band at a college one day and get to play on a football field. Before joining band, I am not sure if I would have had the confidence to do something like that but now I am excited for the possibility to do that in the future!

Band is my favorite extracurricular activity that I participate in and cannot wait for my band concert at the end of the school year so I can show my family how much I have learned over my first year of band.

In conclusion, for me band is a fun, exciting activity that has helped me gain confidence and meet new friends. I look forward to many more years of band and growing my skills on the Clarinet!
