Willis Music Oxmoor Product Profile
Product: Dean Dimebag Signature Razorback

Solid mahogany wood body, thin set-in Mahogany neck, 1 Seymour Duncan Dimebucker pickup, 1 standard Dean humbucker pickup, Floyd Rose licensed double locking bridge, custom fretboard inlays, custom modified volume knobs
Those familiar with the furious playing style of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott from Pantera, Damageplan or the many contributions he made to guitar magazine sound files will immediately recognize this guitar as coming entirely from him. Designed by Darrell himself shortly before his death, the Razorback takes Dean’s historic ML shape and morphs it into something resembling an Anime weapon.
Sharp edges and bevels cover this instrument, and though it looks a bit unwieldy in size, it’s actually very comfortable to play. The guitar has great balance despite its size, and the tone is sharp and clear even when unplugged. I ran this into a Peavey Valve King combo and was rewarded with growl, bite and serious sustain.
The Dimebucker is a relatively faithful reproduction of Dime’s much treasured Bill Lawrence dual blade humbucker, and as those become harder to find Seymour Duncan stepped up to the plate to let every guitarist searching for searing highs find their dream. Combining the two pickups together found the Dimebucker easily overwhelming the neck positioned Dean model, but on it’s own the neck humbucker sounded surprisingly creamy. Darrell’s taste in music ran from metal to country, but the bulk of his listening seemed to focus on the great guitar tones of the 70’s, and the neck pickup lives up to that well. Since we’re also a Krank dealer, I couldn’t resist plugging the Razorback into the amp Dime preferred, and the pairing was literally wall shaking.
The Krank showed what the Razorback was truly capable of, and the trademark thick low end/sizzling high end Darrell created was there in abundance. The Floyd Rose is simple to use and since Dean sets it up fully floating, raising or lowering pitch was effortless.
Also worth mentioning are the modified knobs used on Darrell’s models. For better grip he would drill small holes into the sides of his knobs, and Dean Zelinsky saw no reason not to keep these on the Dime models. They’re great and I’ll be surprised if more builders don’t start doing something similar very soon.
Dimebag’s legion of fans need no other reason to buy these than his longtime relationship with Dean, but this is certainly a guitar that can stand on it’s own. Sonically devastating with great natural sustain and it still plays like it was made for the man himself. I’m sure Dime would be proud and know that Dean is.
