Boss Micro Cube Amplifier

Boss Microcube Amplifier

Compact size, battery or AC adaptor operation, attachable carrying strap, recording/headphone output, 6 built-in digital FX, 7 digitally modeled amp sounds, built-in digital tuning fork, CD player input.

Small in size but large in tones, the Boss Micro Cube practice amp is outstanding. There is an immense selection of product available in this area of amps, but Boss has really come out on top of the pack.

Immediately I was surprised by how big the sound was for an amp this size. The closed back design of the amp really helps to maximize the volume and full sound it delivers. Seven different digital amp models are available to choose from as the primary sound that covers everything from a microphone preamp to all out distortion. If you’ve been looking for an at-home way to recreate the thick tones of Mesa, Krank or Hughes & Kettner amps your search is over. No pedal I’ve ever used sounds as good as the gain sounds of this amp. Of note to fans of the classic Roland Jazz Chorus amp is the model that uses the same rich chorus effect that made the amp a studio and stage staple. Even in this small format the familiar tone is right there.

The on-board digital FX sound terrific and make the Micro Cube an even better value. The most popular effects from the Boss line are here including chorus, flanger, tremolo, delay and phaser. Selection is easy and the amount of effect is controllable via one knob. It would be almost impossible to make this amp simpler to use and enjoy. A digital tuning fork that can be adjusted for standard or flat tunings is built-in also saving you from having to unplug whenever you want to readjust your guitar’s tuning. Boss has even included an input that allows you to plug a CD or MP3 player in and jam along with it. There is also a headphone jack to allow for private playing that doubles as a recording output should you want to take your riffs to the next level. A detachable strap is included for easy moving as is the AC adaptor should you want to skip the AA battery route.

This review is short and sweet, but that’s all it needs to be. This is the nicest practice amp I’ve played and its great sound and small size make it a winner across the board.
